a flash comes upon your home life and troubles and I feel as if I could sink every mill and mine we own…. We then think of you and Mrs. Frick and Mrs. Childs and your Home & could just rush off together to be with you—I wish you would always include in your cables some home news. We have had our trials in all this business—hard enough in some respects harder to bear standing apart in inaction, than if in the midst of the excitement but these melt into nothingness compared to your home agonies. I don’t see how you can stand them. If you are like me you will stand until all is quiet and you are out of it and then give way—I have not been so well the past two weeks principally because there is less excitement—and besides fishing is over and then HP [Harry Phipps] has been up for consolation and we have dwelt more upon the crisis—I hope to get my mind somewhat off it, by rushing through Italy etc—fresh sights do much—one of the earliest moves you make should be to take all your family direct to Geneva and bask in Italian scenes. I wish you could join us—You know we are good traveling companions…. Business be hanged—Ever your friend…. We may go to Italy from London about 15th October but our movements always subject to your wishes.34
